Dedicated to critical cultural production at the intersection of art and activism.

We cover artists from around the globe whose work explores and realizes social change. Our goal is to provide a narrative about these activist efforts while simultaneously participating in them. Maintained by The Groundswell Collective since 2007.

Porous City: Krzysztof Wodiczko at MIT

Next week, Krzysztof Wodiczko closes out the fantastic MIT lecture series “City as Stage, City as Process” with an introduction to his critical design proposals including Poliscar and Homeless Vehicles.

The series has brought together speakers from art and (counter) culture, architecture, urbanism, and media technology to discuss how artists and cultural activists activate urban, public spaces.

Professor Wodiczko directs MIT’s Center for Advanced Visual Studies program, and his most recent work, …OUT OF HERE: The Veterans Project, opened November 4 at the Boston ICA.  OUT OF HERE is a video projection exploring war, partially based on interviews with members of the local IVAW chapter.  The ICA explains:

Created from their stories and accounts, the projected scenario reflects physical and psychological environment of combat, as well as the fragmented way experiences are perceived in distressing or uncertain situations.
