Sea Change Residencies
Sea Change Residencies was founded in 2001 as a project of the Gaea Foundation, to provide time, space, and funds to outstanding artists and activists making critical headway in bringing forward alternative paths to social change.
… in the life of the artist, there is an appreciation of the need for time and space that activists generally cannot afford. And, in the life of the activist, there is an underlying commitment to social transformation that is not widely supported in the “art world.” Sea Change Cottage nurtures the artist/activist, that rare being that inhabits both of these worlds, both of these realities.
Residents are selected from a committee-nominated pool, and hosted in the Sea Change Cottage in Provincetown, MA. From their website:
A rotating nominations committee consisting of accomplished artists, activists, non-profit leaders, and academics submits candidates for Sea Change Residencies to Gaea Foundation staff. Additionally, former Sea Change Residents are asked to submit one nomination following their residency. From this pool of nominees, in concert with an outside advisory committee, Gaea staff makes final selections, which are submitted to the Gaea Foundation Board for approval.
