Bread and Puppet in Providence

Brown University plays host to the Bread and Puppet theatre company this week for several shows, including two performances each of Storm Office: A Storm Poem with Implementation Machine and The Sourdough Philosophy Circus.
On October 16 and 17, Bread & Puppet presents Storm Office: A Storm Poem with Implementation Machine – a dumb show performed on two small stages. Storm Office can be seen at the Black Box Theater at The Met School, 325 Public St in Providence, RI. Shows start at 8:00PM. From the show’s description:
Dumb shows speak with pictures instead of words. The eye’s understanding of the pictures goes by its own rules and does not comply with our word-oriented logic. Bread & Puppet Dumb Shows rely on a vast collection of masks and puppets, representing all archetypal traits of the ancient and contemporary worlds. In this one, masked characters are joined by an airplane, a typewriter, a deer, a big fist, and a little boat on a big ocean.
This weekend (October 18 and 19), B&P will perform The Sourdough Philosophy Circus on Brown University’s Main Green.
The Sourdough Philosophy Circus is about the need for human fermentation. Human fermentation concerns those parts of the human body that are not governed by the government, like the guts and the gutsy parts of the brain. This is also applies to zebras and talented turkeys, dancing bears and independent donkeys. The show is run by a bunch of cooks, specialists in cooking the various stews and pancakes of our everyday first world existence. Additional commentary is provided by the Rotten Idea Theater Company. Music is by the Sourdough Philosophy Brass Band and a quartet of sheep.
Hope to see you there!
