Final HONK! Preview
Every Friday in the weeks leading up to this years HONK! Festival in Boston we’ve been giving you a preview of some of the bands who will be attending. This week is the last week! HONK! will be kicking off next Friday in Davis Square, Somerville. So, for the last time we give you, the HONK! U. Marching Band, Original Big Seven Club, AfroBrazil, Somerville’s Raging Grannies chapter.
HONK! U. Marching Band
The Tufts/Somerville HONK U! project joins the HONK! movement’s goals of bringing students and community members together with sound – reclaiming the streets with music and dancing, encouraging human interaction and joyful listening. Original Big Seven Club
Sorry everyone, these mysterious seven are off the grid, no website, no nothing but, they’re coming all the way from New Orleans. They are not to be missed.
AfroBrazil
AfroBrazil’s goal is to preserve, promote and spread the Afro-Brazilian culture, in all its aspects: music, dance, religion, and culinary arts. At this time our primary focus is on the music and dance, thru different music entities: - BatukAxé drum and dance ensemble playing samba reggae and other batucada style grooves. - Banda Jiló playing Forro music from northeastern Brazil. - Aguidá plays Axé music, the most contemporary music style from Salvador. - Mangalô a modern interpretation of traditional Brazilian grooves. Our goals are to create an annual event fully dedicated to the Afro-Brazilian culture and to organize an annual trip to Bahia to spread the knowledge of Afro-Brazilian culture in the US by exposing people to the lifestyle of Bahia.
