Words Without Walls: Writing and Art by Women in Prison in Nova Scotia

Words Without WallsBooks Beyond Bars, a Halifax-based prison library program, published Words Without Walls: Writing and Art by Women in Prison in Nova Scotia earlier this year. The organization runs books exchange and writing programs in prisons in Nova Scotia, and offers the “Read Aloud” program, where they tape record incarcerated mothers reading children’s books aloud and then send the book and tape to her children outside.

Rabble.ca gave the book an excellent review, worth reading over.

Sample the poems youself with this PDF, and read the accompanying essay by BBB members here as well.
