I was reading about the San Francisco Diggers this morning, and as I looked around at the headlines that my fellow public transit riders were reading, all proclaiming economic doom and gloom, it occurred to me that the Digger Manifesto would be an apt thing to share today. Here’s “Money Is An Unnecessary Evil” by the San Francisco Diggers:
This and other Digger materials are available in The Digger Archives.
The Port Huron Project is a series of reenactments of protest speeches from the New Left movements of the Vietnam era. Each event takes place at the site of the original speech, and is delivered by an actor or performance artist to an audience of invited guests and passers-by. Videos of these performances are screened on campuses, exhibited in art spaces, and distributed online as open-source media.
Performance artist and project organizer Mark Tribe has captured the attention of media giants like the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and New York Magazine. The project initiated in 2006 and continues presently - the most recent speech was delivered earlier this month in New York City.

Every Friday before this year’s HONK! Festival (October 10-12) we’re giving you a preview of a few of the bands who will be attending. This week, The Bread & Puppet Circus Band, Leftist Marching Band, MarchFourth Marching Band, and the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable.
O! and don’t forget to print out your HONK! posters and spread the word!
Update: BoingBoing is reporting this action is the work of Mark Jenkins, in collaboration with Greenpeace. The prank set off a bomb scare at at D.C. train station, shutting it down for an hour.
Here is Greenpeace’s page on the project, and Mark’s page is here. Both have more pictures.
