Groundswell Talks: (RE)

Groundswell TalksRyan and Phil are the two visual artists behind the (RE) campaign. Inspired to action by (PRODUCT) RED’s reprehensible use of consumerism to solve the world’s ills, the duo set out to respond directly to the popular campaign. By offering alternative strategies for participation in raising both funds and awareness for a cause, (RE) challenges the underlying philosophy of (PRODUCT) RED and offers a more responsible and ecological alternative.

We discussed the effort, including the cease and desist letter they were issued for their work, briefly via email.

Alternative Economics, Alternative Societies

Several years ago in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Oliver Ressler and the Wyspa Insitute of Art gathered together diverse concepts and models for alternative economies and societies.  The result was an art book and several exhibits that displayed the diversity and power of these counter-models to capitalism.

Public Collectors

Public Collectors consists of informal agreements where collectors of art allow the contents of their collection to be published and permit those who are curious to directly experience the objects in person. Participants must be willing to type up an inventory of their collection, provide a means of contact and share their collection with the public. Collectors can be based in any geographic location.

Groundswell Talks: Jesse Graves

“Spray paint is not healthy for children and other living things” is a credo that informs the street art of Jesse Graves. Fashioning his stencils with politics and community in mind, he paints with mud, preserving the environment, human health, and his canvases at the same time. I conversed with Jesse recently about his chosen medium and the politics that inform his work.
