SPEAK OUT: Art, Design and Politics
SPEAK OUT is seeking current political and social art/design meant to persuade, inform and/or educate audiences in a visually overstimulating landscape. The exhibit will be on display at 516 Arts in Albuquerque, NM, from November 1 – December 20, 2008.
In the past, the power of print was enormous; people could be jailed for what they said, performed or put in print, and this is still true today in a few countries. In our present culture we are bombarded by a plethora of messages that jostle for our attention and flood our eyes and ears through print, performance, email and the internet.
Showcased in this exhibit are artists and designers from around the world that rise above the din with urgent, cogent images. Selections will be curated by invitation and from this call for art.
You are invited to submit your work via email to rhiannon@516arts.org by June 16. Please provide the following:
- Up to 6 JPGs of available work
- Title, year, media, dimensions for each
- A short bio
- A short artist’s statement
