Dedicated to critical cultural production at the intersection of art and activism.

We cover artists from around the globe whose work explores and realizes social change. Our goal is to provide a narrative about these activist efforts while simultaneously participating in them. Maintained by The Groundswell Collective since 2007.

Social Justice 2008

Luba Lukova’s Social Justice 2008 brings us twelve distinctive and thought-provoking posters on the following subjects:

Brainwashing, Peace, Social Security, Immigrant, Sudan, Privacy, Corporate Corruption, Dialogue, Censorship, Health Coverage, Income Gap, and Ecology

Lukova is joined in this unbound hardcover by writer and social activist Margaret Scarsdale, who provides the accompanying essay.

More than just social commentary, these posters are a call to action.

Social Justice Detail

The images draw on well constructed visual metaphors that deconstruct the political issues, and deliver clarity, both visually and in the message conveyed. Most of the images use only two or three colors, and the illustrations are uncomplicated, using only a few elements.

These are not mere artistic materials but are supporting hands for the struggle for social justice. Here art is not only beautiful but meaningful also.
My hearty greetings to the artists.
