Dedicated to critical cultural production at the intersection of art and activism.

We cover artists from around the globe whose work explores and realizes social change. Our goal is to provide a narrative about these activist efforts while simultaneously participating in them. Maintained by The Groundswell Collective since 2007.

Why We Do This

The Granny Peace Brigade published Reflections on the Knit-In yesterday evening. In the article, they quote John Emerson’s apt description of their protest as the opposite of violence, and thank Groundswell for the perspective I offered last Tuesday:

The idea of being constructive wasn’t foremost in my consciousness at the time but it was lurking down in the shadows and I thank James David for shining a light.

It’s incredibly inspiring to have an impact beyond publishing each day. Having made a difference as seemingly small as this reminds me of our purpose here – not only about Groundswell, but social design in general.

Why do you care about social design? Have you had similar experiences?
