Public Interest Pictures
Public Interest Pictures is comprised of “activists who make documentaries as an extension of our activism. We’re here to take on tough issues: tyrannical leadership, threats to democracy, and policies and practices at odds with—you guessed it—the public interest. It’s not enough for us to “document” it. We want to change it. And we need your help.”
I’ve seen a few of their films; I recently watched Unprecedented, which covers the 2004 U.S. presidential elections, and I own a copy of Uncovered: The War on Iraq. Their latest effort is Hacking Democracy, which follows activist Bev Harris on her campaign to expose lax standards in electronic voting machine technologies that leave the door open for manipulation and corruption of election results. Read more about it, or watch the trailer.
They are working to update their website to serve as an activist tool; users will be able to publicize screenings of PIP movies, and search for local events. They’re also hiring an executive assistant/office manager for their office in Los Angeles. If you’re interested, get in touch with Marcos, and send your cover letter and resume in the body of the email (they won’t open attachments) and be sure to put “RESUME” in the subject line.
